Easy No-Cook Chocolate Berry Trifle

The Hallmark channel has decided that it would be a good idea to have the holiday countdown right on your television screen! I was watching a movie yesterday and in the lower left corner of the screen it said “18 days until Thanksgiving.” What are they thinking? Of course, I immediately starting thinking about what I would make for our Thanksgiving meal this year. It’s not easy to come up with a menu that is not only special and “Thanksgivingish” but that Nick will like. That boy just wants steak with A1 sauce for every meal. Each year I try something new and each year he rolls his eyes. Ugh!

At least I get to roll out the red tablecloth at Christmas and prepare a fancy meal for our friends. Each year we have a special dinner after our Christmas Cantata. This year I will be making a pork crown roast filled with a harvest stuffing. Yummmmmm!

OK -with the holidays fast approaching (thanks Hallmark), I know many are scrambling to come up with their holiday menus. Some always make the same things each year. It’s tradition. Tradition is a good thing. But there are others who like to add something new to their menu each year.

I can’t think of a better way to add something new to my holiday menu than to fix one of my friends tried and true recipes. So… I have asked my P31 sisters to share their favorite or traditional family recipes with us. They are so excited about this. So, from now until New Years, there will be a handful of recipes from my friends each week. In between their family recipes, I will be sharing some new side dishes with you. The sharing will begin this Friday. But for today…

Y’all are probably getting familiar with my friend Carol of Cantcookalick. Well, Carol says that she is always assigned paper products as her Thanksgiving offering. This year she wants to wow them with actual food! Here is a simple recipe that requires no cooking at all. If you have never cooked before or if you burn whatever you do attempt to cook, this trifle will knock the socks off of your guests. (If there are teenage boys in the house this may not be a good thing. I speak of what I know my friends.)

This recipe may not seem very “fall like” but it sure is impressive. I will share another very easy dessert recipe tomorrow for you “non cookers.” With maple and pecans, it will definitely be a little more like fall.

Here’s my VERY EASY no-cook trifle:

Easy No-Cook Chocolate Berry Trifle

The cast of characters:

Ingredients:

  • 1 store bought angel food cake
  • 2 containers Kozy Shack chocolate pudding
  • 1 container blueberries
  • 1 container raspberries
  • 1 container strawberries, quartered
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 8 oz container Cool Whip
  • 1 chocolate bar (any will do)

Break up the cake so it is in bite-size pieces.

Mix the berries with the sugar and set aside.

In a trifle dish, place one third of the cake pieces. Top with 1 heaping cup of the chocolate pudding. Top with half of the berries. Top with half of the Cool Whip. Repeat layers. (You will have some cake and chocolate pudding left over. This is not a bad thing! Yum!)

Take a vegetable peeler and shave some chocolate off the side of a chocolate bar, onto the top of the trifle.

The result of your culinary skills:

Take a bow!

Sweetest Blessings,
LeAnn

Oh my goodness! That is so funny! I too always bring the paper plates, etc at family get togethers! :) Not this year – I’m gonna wow them all! :)

LeAnn,

Can this be made the day before? Wondering if the cake and berries will be mushy if I prepare it ahead of time!

Thanks so much! LOVE your website! Follow you every day and have shared your site with many of my friends! Delicious recipes!!

Hi Lisa!

Yes, you can make this the day before. That’s what I usually do :) I wouldn’t make it two days before as the cake will start to get soggy at that point.

Let me know how it turns out! It is always a crowd pleaser at my house!

Blessings!
LeAnn
