Before I share this very easy, very delicious, and very festive pound cake recipe…
We have a winner!
Teresa was randomly chosen by the number of her comment. Her favorite tradition is getting together at her mother’s house to make her great-grandmother’s sugar cookies! her Dad even pitches in an rolls out the dough. I love family bonding
Congratulations, Teresa. I will be emailing you for your mailing address. Since you love decorating cookies, I think you will love this gift package filled with Christmas decorating goodies!
OK – this recipe starts with a boxed cake mix so it’s very easy to do. The crushed candy canes on top make it a beautiful Christmas dessert!
Chocolate Pound Cake with Candy Cane Sprinkles
- 4 eggs
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 package chocolate fudge cake mix
- 1 small package instant chocolate pudding mix
- 12 ounce bag semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips (I use dark, of course
)
Ganache
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup dark chocolate chips
2 candy canes, crushed
whipped cream for serving
peppermint bark for garnish (optional)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour bundt pan (I use the spray stuff. Makes life so much easier!)
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, oil and sour cream. Add cake mix and pudding mix. Beat with a hand mixer for 2 minutes. Fold in package of chocolate chips.
Pour batter into prepared pan. Let set on counter for 15 minutes. Place cake in oven and bake for 45 minutes. Remove and let cool for 10 minutes before removing cake from pan and cooling completely on a wire rack.
Once the cake is cooled, place on a serving platter or cake stand.
Make the ganache.
Heat cream to the boiling point in the microwave or in a saucepan on the stove. Place chocolate chips in a heat-proof bowl and pour the hot cream over the chips. Let sit for a couple of minutes and then stir until smooth. Drizzle over the cake.
Sprinkle the top with crushed candy canes. Serve slices with whipped cream and a piece of peppermint bark.
Now go impress your friends!
Sweetest Blessings,
LeAnn

This look absolutely amazing! Can’t wait to try it! Yummy!!!
Wow!
Can this be made in loaf pans and the ganache drizzled on top, so it can easily be given as gifts?
It does look delicious, going on my Christmas baking list for this season
Are we going to see any pictures of your new home decorated for Christmas? Would enjoy seeing some since you shared some with us following your move in.
Hi Kathy! Yes, I think it could be made in loaf pans. What a great idea for gifts. You would probably need to cook it less time. Do the toothpick test after 30 minutes.
I hadn’t thought about sharing pictures of my house all decorated. I’m not great at taking photos of my tree. Something about the lights throws me off. But, I have a friend coming to my house on Tuesday and she is taking photography classes! I’ll have her take some pictures and I’ll share them next week. Thank you for caring
Blessings!
LeAnn
I think I’m gonna give this a try for our company Christmas party. I think instead of candy canes on top I’m gonna try to chop the Hershey candy cane kisses and put that on top. YummO!!!
I make a very similar one with Kahlua added but it doesn’t have the ganache or the candy cane, I may try yours. I make mini bundt ones with pans I buy at Michael’s with a coupon and give mini bundt ones to my neighbors for Christmas!
I will try yours this year. Thanks so much!
Thnaks LeAnn!!!! Blessings, Barb
Quick question..why do you have it it on counter for 15 minutes? I haven’t seen that before and wonder if I should do it with other cakes too?
Thanks
